Capt. James B. “Boo Boo” Poulet was a Strike Eagle WSO, flying with the 336th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Seymour-Johnson AFB, and one of the first to deploy in August of 1990 in support of Operation Desert Shield. the 336th TFS set up initially at Thumrait, Oman

On September 30th, 1990 Capt. James B. “Boo Boo” Poulet was flying F-15E 87-0203 together with Pilot Maj. Peter S. Hook on a low-level training mission over the desert about 63 miles north of Thumrait, Oman in preparation for Operation Desert Storm. The F-15E impacted the ground resulting in a crash. Both crew, pilot Maj. Peter S. Hook and WSO Capt. James B. “Boo Boo” Poulet lost their lives.
