Capt. Jeffrey Roether

Capt. Jeffrey Roether was stationed with the 53rd TFS “Tigers” at Bitburg AB, Germany. On December 22nd, 1982 he was on alert duty at the Zulu alert facility at Bitburg AB. The F-15s got called on a Tango Scramble, during the mission Capt. Jeffrey Roether crashed near Herschbach, Rheinland-Pfaltz, Germany

Capt. Jeffrey Roether was a graduate from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He went on active duty in 1976 as a maintenance officer at Langley AFB with the 1st TFW until he was selected for UPT pilot training in 1980 at Laughlin AFB, TX and F-15 training at Holloman AFB, NM. His first operational assignment was the 53rd Tactical Fighter Squadron at Bitburg AB, Germany.

The alert facility at Bitburg AB, was renamed in his honor
