The Eagle and it’s history, today 73-0103 (F-15A). was delivered to the USAF in October 1975 and started operational flying with the 555 TFTS “Triple Nickel” at Luke AFB. Soon after arriving at Luke AFB, 103 was seen flying with the ‘Candy Cane invasion’ stripes, also called “Flying Freddie Haefner’s” WW II invasion stripes.
In 1976, 103 moved over to the 461st TFTS and would continue to fly with the ‘Deadly Jesters’ until late 1978. 103 was briefing loaned to the 57th Fighter Weapons Wing at Nellis AFB supporting the Weapons School. After returning to Luke AFB 73-0103 was transferred to the 426th TFTS and would remain flying with the ‘Killer Claws’ training pilots at Luke for the next 5 years.
In 1985, 103 traded the Arizona desert for the Bayou area and joined the 122nd TFS, Louisiana ANG. 73-0103 would remain flying with the Coonass Militia until the 12th of August 1991 when she once again returned to the Arizona desert for the last time, arriving at Davis-Monthan AFB to be stored at AMARC.
