494 FS debuts heritage jet across the UK

On May 7th 2026 the 494th Fighter Squadron has unveiled its latest heritage-marked F‑15E Strike Eagle with a debut flight across the United Kingdom, showcasing both modern airpower and a deep connection to its past.

Painted in a distinctive camouflage inspired by the Cold War-era F‑111F Aardvark, the aircraft commemorates the 40th anniversary of Operation El Dorado Canyon a pivotal 1986 strike mission launched in part from RAF Lakenheath.
The scheme carries symbolic details, including references to “KARMA 52,” honoring the crew lost during that operation, reinforcing the aircraft’s role as a flying tribute.

Now flying with the 48th Fighter Wing’s “Panthers,” the heritage jet blends past and present—pairing advanced multirole capability with historic identity. Its UK debut not only marked a visual milestone, but also reaffirmed the squadron’s enduring legacy of combat readiness from RAF Lakenheath
